2006 Woodstock 'The Stocks' Shiraz
Franz Scheurer, Australian Gourmet Pages
There are 31 rows of 110-year-old Shiraz vines near the top of the Woodstock estate and the 2006 wine is proof of just how good the fruit on these old vines really is. Dark red, almost black, with deep purple highlights, this wine shows relatively restrained Christmas pudding aromas on the nose with slightly herbaceous, green and stalky undertones. On the palate it is immediately mouth-filling, savoury and full of dried figs and date jam aromas with a lovely, fine-grained tannin structure. It ends long and vivacious, leaving you with only one thought: Let's pour some more!
